Jorge Sanguino is a Colombian-born curator, researcher and art historian based in Düsseldorf, Germany. His work connects contemporary Latin American art with European institutions, collectors, researchers and audiences.
He is the founder of Art of the Americas and co-founder of wildpalms, a Düsseldorf-based gallery and curatorial platform specializing in artistic practices from Latin America. Through exhibitions, academic research, publications, podcasts and public lectures, Sanguino has helped expand the presence and understanding of contemporary Latin American art in Germany and across Europe.
Connecting Latin American Art and Europe
Art of the Americas is an independent platform for talks, screenings, podcasts, research and publications focused on the art of the Americas. Its programs bring artists, curators and other cultural professionals into conversation across cities, regions and countries, supporting knowledge exchange between Latin America and Europe.
Curatorial and Gallery Work
Through wildpalms, Sanguino develops exhibitions and collaborations that introduce contemporary Latin American artistic practices to institutions, private collections and wider audiences in Europe. The gallery has worked with artists including Mauricio Limón de León, Karen Paulina Biswell and Felipe Castelblanco.
Academic Research
Sanguino studied Philosophy at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and holds an MA in Art and Visual History from Humboldt University of Berlin. He is a doctoral candidate in Art History at the University of Cologne, where his research examines the internationalization of Mexican art from the 1990s through the first decade of the twenty-first century.
He is a board member of ZADIK, the Central Archive for German and International Art Market Studies. His research, curatorial work and institutional roles are documented in his 2025 academic publication with Acta Academiae Artium Vilnensis.
Publications and Critical Writing
Sanguino writes about Mexican art, the Latin American art market, cultural politics, informal labour, institutional exclusion and artistic exchange between Latin America and Europe. He is a regular contributor to Artishock and Esfera Pública, and is independently profiled as a Latin American art specialist by A*Desk.
Lectures and European Conferences
His lectures and conference contributions address the movement of art, ideas and institutions between Latin America and Europe. His participation in international academic programs includes the conference Global and Forgotten Connections at Zachęta National Gallery of Art.
